The Ideology & Political Theory Teaching Department of HEU has been developed based on the Marxism-Leninism Department founded at the establishment of the university in 1953 and the Social Science Department at the end of the 1970s. For many years, the Ideology & Political Theory Teaching Department has made outstanding achievements in teaching, scientific research and professional development.
Especially in recent times, with the establishment and perfection of a market economy system, the ideological and political education at the science and engineering colleges have played an important role in personnel training and comprehensively improving students' quality. The Ideology & Political Theory Teaching Department recruits undergraduate students to major in "Ideological and Political Education"; postgraduates to major in "Ideological and Political Education", "Basic Principles of Marxism", "Marxism Sinicization", "The Essential Issue of Chinese Modern History"; and doctors to major in "Ideological and Political Education".
The Ideology & Politics Theory Teaching Department has an existing faculty of 46, including 12 professors, 17 associate professors and 12 lecturers, which form a strong team of teachers that own a rational echelon structure, rich teaching experience and a high level of scientific research ability. The Ideological and Political Education Department has a Basic Principles of Marxism Department, Mao Zedong Thought and Outline of Theoretical System of Chinese Characteristics Socialism Department, Outline of Modern Chinese History Department, Thought Morals Training and Legal base Department, Situation & Policy Department, Heilongjiang Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base, and information center.
The Ideology & Political Theory Teaching Department has witnessed fruitful research achievements. In the past five years, it has undertaken 4 National Philosophy and Social Science Fund Projects, 8 Humanities and Social Science Fund projects from the Ministry of Education, over 50 provincial projects, and has obtained 39 prizes at the provincial level or above. A total of 96 papers were published in CSSCI Journals. Several high level journals including "Historical Research" , "Philosophical Investigations", and "Studies on Marxism" have published articles from the institute, of which 4 articles have been reprinted by the "Xinhua Digest" .
