SHU Qiwang Appointed as Guest Professor of HEU

On July, 19, 2017, Professor SHU Qiwang was appointed as a guest professor of HEU. Professor SHU is one of the "Yangtze River Professors", honorary professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University who is also employed by the Department of Applied Mathematics of Brown University in America. YAN Rujian, assistant principal of HEU, attended the appointment ceremony and awarded the appointment letter and school badge to Professor SHU.

SHU Qiwang is one of the leading scholars in the field of computational fluid dynamics, earned his doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angelis in 1986. He has made original achievements in the finite difference weighted essentially non-oscillatory method and the weighted essentially non-oscillatory method, Gelerkin finite-element method, spectral method, and the numerical solution of Hamilton-Jacobi equation, which are all widely applied to research in the field of fluid dynamics. Professor SHU has attended several mathematical societies, published over 400 research papers-which have been referenced over 45,000 times in total-and made his h-index reach 82. Here are some of Professor SHU's prizes: the Group Achievement Award of NASA Computational Mathematics Competition, the first Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Outstanding Contribution Award of Computational Science and Engineering of Society for Industry and Applied Mathematics of America, and the Prize for Thomson Reuters and ISI Index for Highly Cited mathematicians.
