Announcement about the 2010 Harbin International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest

 The 2010 Harbin International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest (HICSSC2010) will take place in the beautiful ice & snow city Harbin, China. The Contest follows the success of 2009 International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest. We anticipate welcoming you in this at 2010 Harbin International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest.

Deadlines
l        Registration: before October 15th 2009
l        Submitting design draft: before October 30th 2009
l        Sending Invitation letters: before November 10th 2009
l        Time of competition : January 6th—10th 2010
Rules of competition
1)        Each team consists of 4 persons and anyone couldn’t be shifted once the competition begins. Any special conditions needing exchanging, please contact the secretariat of the completion.
2)        Each team will be provided with a snow block with the dimensions of 3 m. long x 3 m. wide x 3.5 m. high. The block of snow should be sculpted on all four sides. No colorants may be added and no other materials may be used in the sculpture. No supports or armature may be used in, or on, the final sculpture. Only hand tools may be used to create the sculpture. No power tools are permitted. The cutting snow volume shouldn’t be more than half of the whole volume and the length, width, and height should be no smaller than half of the original snow block. The base of the work is 0.4m, and the main part can be designed and sculpted by the teams.
3)         A basic set of equipment will be provided for each team; this set consists of a ladder, a snow shovel, a ice scraper, and etc..Teams are reminded to prepare the other tools if needed.
4)        No changes are permitted on the original design draft if the competition starts.
5)        The competition will not be suspended for the reason of weather.
6)        The organizers have the final right of interpretation to the competition.

Champion: 1 team
Silver medals: 2 teams
Bronze medals: 3 teams
Excellent prizes: the teams who have successfully completed the works
Standards of Evaluation 
The evaluation committee will evaluate the works with the following standards and decide the final rank accordingly,
1)        Theme (20’)
The theme is clear and the meaning is profound. Content and form are perfectly matching.
2)        Artistic Expression(30’)
The visual impact is strong, the feeling of space is intensified, and the composition is perfect.
3)        Creativity (35’)
The form is novelty, and the creativity is unique.
4)        Skill (15’)
The skill of sculpture is mature, and the techniques is refining.
