Applause and Cheers burst after 5 hours’ fierce contest. Eventually, the team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University answered seven questions successfully, and won the Champion of 2010 ACM-ICPC World Finals, which wastheir third championship.
The World Finals Award Ceremony was held inQi Hang theater of HEU in the afternoon of February 5th. Dr. William B. Poucher, ACM-ICPC Global Executive Director hosted the ceremony, and thanked HEU for her excellent work.
Prof. Desen Yang, the director of 2010 ACM-ICPC World Finals and the vice president of HEU, announced the winner list: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Moscow State University, National Taiwan University and National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyivwon the gold medal. Petrozavodsk State University, Tsinghua University, Saratov State University and University of Warsaw claimed the silver medal. And St. Petersburg State University, Zhongshan (Sun Yat-sen) University, Fudan University and KTH - Royal Institute of Technology were awarded the bronze medal. These teams received their awards with springy background music and cheered for their achievements.
After awarding, the contract signing ceremony of the 2011 ACM/ICPC World Finals was held. In 2011, the event will be held in Cairo, Egypt. And the 2010 ACM/ICPC World Finals ended perfectly.
The contest has enjoyed full support from the departments of meeting, operating, security, liaison and propaganda of HEU. It shows a good image of HEU.
The team of HEU is composed by Jiaming Xu, a third-year undergraduate, Guang Hu and Zhe Yuan, both first-undergraduates, coached by prof. Jingshan Yu. Although the team members of HEU didn’t win medal in competing with domestic and international elite of programming, they learned valuable experience that shows the way to improve and enhance in the future.
More than 32 media reported the event on site, such as Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Science and Technology Daily. Prof. Zhigang Liu, the president of HEU, was interviewed by CCTV. The contest was also broadcasted live by Harbin Television, Prof. Zhigang Liu, the president of HEU, Prof. Desen Yang, the vice-president of HEU and Dr. William B. Poucher were interviewed at live room.
