The 10th International Snow Sculpture Contest Held in 2018

On January 4th, 2018, the 10th international snow sculpture contest with the theme of enjoying the snow scenery of HEU and visiting the Belt and Road was held in HEU.

After the contest was launched in October, 2017there were 179 participating works from 80 universities in seven countries or regions including China, the United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, Russia, France and Hong Kong. Finally, 8 works from foreign universities includingSwansea University in the United Kingdom,Kochi University of Technology in Japan and other universities and 55 works from 47 domestic universities includingBeijing Institute of Technology, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and TechnologyHarbin Institute of Technology and other universities, are shortlisted for the final.

From January 4th to January 7th, 2018participant teams will create snow sculpture works in the 3-meter-long, 3-meter-wide and 3-meters-highartificial snow blocks. Finally, the experts will select some first prize winners, some second prize winners, some third prize winners and one or two artist individual awards in terms of five aspects including ideas, creativity, complexity, skills and art performance.

This contest is held by Industry Design Major Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee in Ministry of Education and HEU. Propaganda Department of Beijing Organizing Committee for Olympic Winter Games, Ice and Snow Festival Committee Office of Harbin, China and China Youth Daily provide media support for this contest. The mascot of this contest is the snowball, which shows the ice and snow culture of Harbin in a smart and cute cartoon character. This contest aims to promote domestic and foreign ice and snow culture communication and improve the snow sculpture art level of undergraduates.

Up to now, the international snow sculpture contest has been held ten sessions. In the past ten years, over 160 universities from 16 countries including Russia, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Republic of Korea and other countries participated in the contest. In the past ten years, 19 universities of 985 project, 38 universities of 211 project and 11 art universities participated in the contest. The coverage and influence of this contest is quite big.

It is reported that HEU will held various activities including ethnologic concerts and parties of domestic and foreign teams during international snow sculpture contest.
