From July 3rd to the 6th, The 4th Asian Molecular Chirality Conference, hosted by the College of Material Science and Chemical Engineering was held at HEU. The conferece began the morning of the 4th in the multi-functional hall of QiHang Activity Center. Vice President Zhang Zhijian attended the opening ceremony. Yoshio Okamoto, the Chief Distinguished Professor of the Institute of Marine Advanced Materials of the College of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, the nominee candidate for the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2006, the President of the Japan Institute of Polymer Science, and the Honorary Professor of Nagoya University presided over the opening ceremony. More than 200 Chinese and foreign experts, scholars as well as students from Japan, South Korea, the United States, France, Spain, China and other countries attended the conference to discuss the world's cutting-edge topics and developments in the field of molecular Chirality.
Zhang Zhijian made a speech at the conference. Zhang expressed his welcome to the participating experts and scholars in his speech, and briefly introduced the development history, characteristics and the scientific research carried out by the College of Material Science and Chemical Engineering in the field of molecular Chirality. He said that molecular Chirality is closely related to people's health and daily life, and is of great significance to chemistry, life sciences and medical science. The conference focused on the frontier areas of chirality research and the latest research results, aiming at chirality in Asia, creating a high academic exchange platform for workers of research and related fields. He hoped that through this meeting, HEU will further cooperate with well-known universities at home and abroad, promoting the development of rival research and the improvement of research levels, contributing to the world's scientific and technological progress, social development and the promotion of building a community of human destiny.
The Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology of Tianjin University, former Professor of the University of California, San Diego, Jay Siegel, and Professor of the University of Tokyo, made a special report at the meeting.
Before the opening ceremony there was a special meeting in the VIP room on the 4th floor of QiHang. Zhang Zhijian met with Professor Yoshio Okamoto, Professor Jay Siegel, and Professor Eiji Yashima of Nagoya University, as well as Wan Xinhua, Professor of the School of Chemistry of Peking University, Che Shunai, Professor of the School of Automotive Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Jiaotong University, and other experts and scholars.
The Asian Molecular Chirality Conference is a biennial series of international conferences designed to provide a broad platform for scientific and technological exchanges for scholars from Asia to promote exchanges and cooperation through academic seminars, especially promoting exchanges between young and middle-aged scholars. The conference emphasized the multidisciplinary characteristics and importance of chirality research, attracting researchers and students from different fields of academia and industry. The first Asian Molecular Chirality Conference was hosted by Kyushu University in Fukuoka in March 2012. The second Asian Molecular Chirality Conference was hosted by Peking University in Beijing in October 2014. The 3rd Asian Molecular Chirality Conference was hosted by Osaka University in Osaka in April 2016.The 4th Asian Molecular Chirality Conference was hosted by our school.
