On March 15th, XIA Guihua Deputy Secretary of HEU Party Committee, led a delegation to visit the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between Harbin Engineering University and Norwegian University of Science and Technology”, with Vice President Bjarne Foss. It marks the establishment of formal relationship between two schools.
During the discussion both sides expressed their willingness to further expand their cooperation in teaching, research and other fields on the basis of previous research cooperation. Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed by two universities. It includes student and teacher exchanges, collaborative research and joint publication of papers, seminars and academic conferences, academic materials and academic paper exchanges and short-term academic projects. This Memorandum isof great significance for cooperation between two schools in respective beneficial disciplines; in order to improve talents, cultivate quality, introduce high-quality teachers, promoting the international repute of running schools and the construction of “double-class”.
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology is Norway's leading research center for Engineering and Industrial Technology. It is amongst top ranking institutes in the world of Marine and Offshore Engineering and enjoys a great repute in the academic world. It is one of the observer units of, the International Ship and Ocean Engineering Innovation and Cooperation Organization (ICNAME). After the recent merger agreement, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology has developed into the largest university in Norway and has undertaken major research projects in numerous Engineering fields.
In recent years, our school and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology research team has carried out scientific research cooperation in the fields of; Ship Hydrodynamics and Intelligent Ships. Two professors of Norwegian University of Science and Technology have been appointed as honorary professors of HEU and these two professors have jointly established an excellent paper scholarship for our students. Since 2003, our school has hired five teachers as visiting scholars and sent 15 graduates as PhD students to study as exchange, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Our school has introduced four Norwegian University of Science and Technology graduates to work. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology teachers came to our school to participate in the 2013 Ocean Renewable Energy Symposium, the 2017 ICNAME Conference and the 2018 Polar Equipment and Technology Innovation Forum. Both sides believe that the potential cooperation areas of the two universities include: Ship Simulation Technology, Polar Science, Smart Ship, Unmanned Ship, Marine Fluid Mechanics, Marine Structural Mechanics, Deep Sea Technology, Marine Renewable Energy facilities and Underwater Robots, etc.
