On May 15th, the 2019 Chinese Government Ocean Scholarship Admissions Review Meeting was held at HEU. Vice President ZHANG Zhijian attended the meeting and delivered a speech. SUN Shengzhi, Director of International Cooperation Division II, Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Natural Resources, Yang Ye Deputy Director of the China Scholarship Council, and more than 20 representatives from 12 universities and units, including; Ocean University of China, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University, National Ocean Technology Center, National Marine Environmental Forecast Center, the National Deep Sea Base Management Center, the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Third Institute of Ocean Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources, attended the meeting .
ZHANG Zhijian briefly introduced the characteristics, the effective functioning of the school and the international students of HEU. He pointed out that HEU has always adhered to the value pursuit of, “keeping the needs of the motherland as its first preference, meeting the National Defense demand as its top priority and having people's satisfaction as its foremost criterion”. It has taken roots in China’s land by serving the National strategy and cultivating first-class talents. Hence, Joining the Chinese Government Ocean Scholarship Program, by providing an opportunity for HEU to serve its National strategy. He said that for the Chinese Government's Marine Scholarship program, our school has attributed great importance to the selection, management and training of international students. ZHANG hoped that HEU and other universities would exchange ideas and learn from each other. Consequently, making progress and development together by jointly undertaking the Chinese Government Marine Scholarship program.
The Chinese Government Ocean Scholarship Program has been jointly established by the Ministry of Natural Resources (formerly the State Oceanic Administration) and the Ministry of Education, to provide outstanding youth from the South China Sea, the Pacific Ocean countries around the Indian Ocean and developing countries in Africa to study for Masters and Doctorate degree in Marine and related fields.
Since its launch in 2012, it has funded up to, 170 international students from 32 countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America since last seven years. At present, China Ocean University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University and HEU，in total, five universities are entrusted units . In 2018, HEU became the entrusted training unit of the Chinese Government Ocean Scholarship Program. Initially, in 2019, HEU enrolled his students.
