The Ship Museum was Declared as the National Marine Science Education Base

A few days ago, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Academy of Oceanography, the Chinese Academy of Oceanography held its eighth Fifth Council meeting in Sanya, Hainan.


At the meeting, the decision about the addition of National Marine Science Popularization Education Base by China Society of Oceanography, was announced. It has been decided to add 13 units comprising of; Harbin Engineering University Ship Museum and Qinhuangdao Shell Science Popularization Museum as the National Marine Science Popularization Education Base.


The Ship Museum of Harbin Engineering University was built in 2006. It utilizes the advantageous resources of the school’s characteristic disciplines. Thus, relying on the museum to disseminate Marine information, by strengthening Marine education and conducting various forms of Marine Science Popularization activities. Henceforth, improving the Marine Science Literacy and Marine awareness of the entire nation, by contributing to the National Marine Science Popularization.

Presently, the museum has established a long-term Science Popularization activity cooperation, having more than 20 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Harbin, successfully receiving more than 35000 tourists, visiting teachers and students annually.
