More than 200 scholars gathered together to promote the building of a maritime community with a shared future

On April 2, the 2023 International Forum on Building a Maritime Community with a Shared Future Forum for Young Researchers and Scholars and the Opening Ceremony of the Asia-Europe Institute of Modern Marine Technology and Equipment was held in Yantai. The theme of the forum is “gathering young researchers and scholars to support the future development of marine science and technology”. The forum aims to enhance the comprehensive innovation capacity of marine science and technology, promote the transformation and industrialization of new technology achievements, and further build a marine community with a shared future. More than 230 academicians, experts, scholars and government personnel are engaged in discussions and exchanges on marine science and technology.

The forum was jointly hosted by the Department of Mechanical and Carrier Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Science and Technology Committee of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited. It is jointly undertaken by Yantai Huang-Bohai New District Management Committee and our university. It is co-organized by the National Key Laboratory of Underwater Acoustic Technology, the Frontier Science Center for Extreme Marine Environment Fluctuation Field, the Key Laboratory of Polar Marine Acoustics and Technology Application of the Ministry of Education, the Asia-Europe Institute of Modern Marine Industrial Technology and Equipment, and the Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Engineering Equipment and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Mou Shuqing, executive deputy mayor of Yantai, gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum. He pointed out that the construction of a maritime community with a shared future is inseparable from the international exchange and cooperation of technology and talents, as well as the efficient interaction and collaboration of the government, enterprises, universities.

Academician Yang Desen, Chairman of the organizing committee of the forum and member of the Standing Committee of the Department of Mechanical and Carrier Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that facing the complicated situation at home and abroad and the major needs of the country, this forum actively carries the major tasks in the field of national marine science and technology, and promotes the basic research and development of marine equipment and key technologies.

Zhang Hongjun, member of the Standing Committee of Science and Technology Committee of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, pointed out in his speech that this forum is a grand gathering of young scholars in the field of marine science and technology. He hoped that academicians and experts can fully exchange academic views with young scholars.

Jing Shikuan, from Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, affirmed the theme of the forum. He said this concept is profound and the prospect is bright, which coincides with the strategy of strengthening Shandong  province as a marine province.

Gao Yan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Harbin Engineering University, pointed out that the construction of the Institute of Yantai is inseparable from the strong support of Yantai Municipal Party Committee and the Huang-Bohai New Area Working Committee and Management Committee. He hoped that in the future, the both sides of the HEU and the local area would continue to work together to inject strong impetus for technological innovation and high-end development of marine equipment in the field.

In the keynote report session of the forum, eight experts and scholars in the field of marine science delivered wonderful keynote reports.

On the afternoon of April 2, six academic forums were held, focusing on marine equipment technology, marine robotics technology, marine information technology, marine high-end devices, marine intelligent sensing and marine energy and power. More than 50 experts from universities, research institutes and enterprises gave academic reports, shared technical achievements, and had discussions.
