As one of the important activities of the 70th anniversary of HEU, “Deep Blue Science Forum” was officially opened on March 17th. The first session was organized by the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering. Academician Novoselov, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010, was invited to tell the scientific story of graphene online with the title of “Amazing two-dimensional Materials”.

Professor Novoselov first expressed his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of HEU. Then, he shared the experience of discovery process, physical properties, preparation, development and application of graphene in his report. Finally, professor Novoselov patiently answered the questions of teachers and students.

Professor Novoselov, born in Russia in 1974, graduated from Radnoud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. He is the director of the Institute of Intelligent Materials at the National University of Singapore, a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) and chief scientist of the National Graphene Research Institute in the United Kingdom. He is an expert in condensed matter physics, microphysics and nanotechnology. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010 and was knighted in 2012 for his work on graphene. He has published more than 550 academic papers, including more than 30 papers in Nature and Science, 65 papers in Nature sub-journals and 17 papers in PRL. He has cited more than 360,000 times in total, and his h-index is higher than 150. The graphene papers published in 2004 have been selected as one of the world’s 100 highly cited papers in all fields.

“Deep Blue Science Forum” is a master forum jointly sponsored by the Secretariat of the Association for Science and Technology of HEU, the Academy of Scientific Research and the International Office. It features academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, foreign academicians, experts and scholars with international influence as guest speakers.
