On April 1st, the High-end Forum for Building a Maritime Community with a Shared Future, the "Presidents’ Sub Forum", was held in Beijing. The presidents and representatives of 22 domestic and foreign universities in the field of shipbuilding and maritime affairs attended the meeting to discuss on promoting the construction of a maritime community with a shared future, the sustainable development of marine equipment technology, and empowering high-quality development of the marine economy through technological innovations. The president and deputy secretary of HEU party committee, Yao Yu, and member of the party committee standing committee and deputy president of HEU, Yin Jingwei, respectively presided over two presidents’ forums.
“The concept of a maritime community with a shared future is an extension and practical application of the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind in the field of the ocean. It is also a transcendence and development of traditional global ocean governance concepts, and a refinement and development of the global ocean governance system”, Yao Yu stated, during the forum, and a maritime community with a shared future requires political, industry, academia, research, and business parties in the ocean field to closely adhere to the construction vision and tasks, deepen the talent cultivation, technological innovation, opening-up cooperation, and cultural exchange that support the development of the global ocean industry, and continuously expand the cultural, scientific, and technological circles, and circle of friends in the ocean field.
Driven by the national "dual carbon" goal, the development of marine renewable energy and green intelligent ships have become important fulcrums for the future development of China's marine engineering field. Yao Yu stated that Harbin Engineering University is led by innovative technology, closely combined with industry demand, and has increased its original innovation capabilities in basic research. Focusing on China’s green, low-carbon, and intelligent revolution, HEU promotes researches on scientific and research issues such as green and low-carbon and artificial intelligence, and supports the construction of a maritime community with a shared future.
During the forum, attendees conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the 2023 high-end forum initiative for building a maritime community with a shared future “Our Homeland, Our Responsibilities, and Our Actions”, exploring methods, responsibilities, and actions for sustainable development in the ocean. Everyone agrees that intergovernmental organizations, international and regional organizations, industry organizations, enterprises, universities, and research institutions should uphold the global ocean governance concept of joint consultation, construction, and sharing, deepen cooperation in marine technology, marine equipment, marine talents and marine economy. They also agree to shape a marine culture based on common human values and work together to promote the construction of a maritime community with a shared future.
