Recently, the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League announced the list of the 25th Heilongjiang Youth May Fourth Medal. Professor NI Baoyu from College of Shipbuilding Engineering was awarded the Heilongjiang Individual Youth May Fourth Medal.

NI Baoyu, Professor and Doctoral Advisor, National high-level talents, RINA Fellow of British Royal Institution of Naval Architects, and renowned teachers in Heilongjiang Province, also serves as Deputy Director of the China Russia Polar Technology and Equipment Joint Laboratory of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Deputy Director of the "Polar Equipment Technology" Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Deputy Editor in Chief of JMSA.

He has been engaged in the design and manufacturing of polar ships and ocean engineering for years. He has committed himself to applied basic research such as ice load prediction, ice wave interaction, ice water ship coupling kinematics. And hid relevant achievements were applied to polar equipment such as China's "Xuelong 2" polar scientific research ship, the world's latest polar deck transport ship. He has made contributions to the construction of China's "Ice Silk Road" and regional economic development.

NI Baoyu is deeply aware of the gap between China and the Arctic powers in basic research. For this reason, he went to University College London for postdoctoral research. After returning home, he proposed the method of high-speed water jet ice breaking for the first time in the world. His achievements were published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, the top journal of fluid mechanics, and other magazines. The ice breaking mechanism was highly praised by Professor Korobkin, the winner of the highest award in international ship fluid mechanics "Weinblum Memorial Legend", who said: "A very challenging problem has been solved".

He mainly teaches four undergraduate/postgraduate courses, such as Ship and Ocean Engineering fluid mechanics. The courses were approved as national first-class courses, first-class courses in Heilongjiang Province, and provincial ideological and political demonstration courses. The teaching team was selected as the Heilongjiang ideological and political teaching team and the provincial excellent graduate guiding team.
