On May 29th, the inauguration of the Harbin Research Center of the Hanjiang Laboratory at HEU marked the establishment of the first national research center by the university. The unveiling ceremony was held at the Sail Activity Center, graced by the presence of ZHANG Qixiang, Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province, who delivered a speech.
Also in attendance were Academician XU Qing, Vice Director of the Hanjiang Laboratory; CHEN Su, Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology; SONG Yingdong, President of Harbin Engineering University; Academician YANG Desen, Director of the Academic Committee of the Hanjiang Laboratory; LI Rongsheng, Minister of Organization at Harbin Engineering University; and ZHAO Yuxin, Assistant to the President. Vice President YAN Rujian presided over the event.
ZHANG Qixiang highlighted Harbin Engineering University's prominent role as a higher education institution in Heilongjiang Province, boasting world-leading research capabilities and talent cultivation advantages. The Hanjiang Laboratory, as a high-level research platform, symbolizes a mutually beneficial collaboration, advancing Heilongjiang Province's scientific and technological innovation efforts. The establishment of the Harbin Research Center signifies a significant stride forward, injecting fresh vitality into the province's industrial revitalization driven by science and technology innovation. He emphasized the center's role in strengthening technological breakthroughs, expediting the transformation of scientific achievements, innovating management mechanisms, and enhancing its own capabilities, showcasing responsibility and initiative in accelerating the development of new productive forces.
SONG Yingdong pledged the university's commitment to nurturing talents through national-level platforms, elevating the supply of top talents, meeting national major demands via high-level research platforms, and fostering new productive forces through quality innovation-driven development. Leveraging the research center's construction, the university aims to forge a new model of deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. It seeks to accelerate the translation of research outcomes into tangible productive forces, contributing to national strategic goals and local economic growth with Harbin Engineering's strength.
In his address, Academician XU Qing characterized the Harbin Research Center of the Hanjiang Laboratory as the "opening move" toward building a functional, complementary, virtuous, and interactive innovation network. He envisioned the center facilitating talent circulation channels with regional universities and research institutes, establishing a shared consultation, construction, and talent attraction mechanism. This approach aims to nurture young scientific talents, fortify the wellspring of scientific innovation, and assist Heilongjiang Province in expediting the construction of a modern industrial system.
Finally, ZHANG Qixiang, Academician XU Qing, CHEN Su, SONG Yingdong, and Academician YANG Desen jointly unveiled the Harbin Research Center of the Hanjiang Laboratory. Academician XU Qing and President SONG Yingdong then signed the co-construction agreement for the center.
