On December 7, the inaugural meeting of the Heilongjiang Intelligent Society and Population Development Research and Academic Exchange Base, along with the first Intelligent Society and Population Development Research and Academic Forum, was held at the Teacher Salon of the Qihang Activity Center.
ZHAI Zhenwu, President of the China Population Association and Professor at Renmin University of China, DU Peng, Vice President of the China Population Association and former Vice President of Renmin University of China, WANG Hongyu, Vice President of the Heilongjiang Federation of Social Science Associations, and YAN Rujian, Vice President of HEU (Harbin Engineering University), attended the event and delivered speeches.
YAN Rujian highlighted that the seminar, themed “Research on Intelligent Society and Population Development,” addressed critical topics such as “population quantity” and “population quality” in the context of the new era. He emphasized the theoretical and practical significance of these discussions and expressed his hope that the attending experts and scholars would collaboratively contribute their expertise and efforts to advancing demographic research, ensuring balanced long-term population development, and supporting China's path to modernization.
ZHAI Zhenwu stressed the importance of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into demographic studies and educational practices to foster innovative development in the field. He underscored the need to cultivate students' interdisciplinary thinking and innovative capabilities to meet the challenges of the new era.
DU Peng affirmed the commitment of Renmin University of China’s School of Population and Health to supporting HEU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences in building a strong foundation for demographic studies. He encouraged exploration in emerging areas related to AI and population development.
MA Lin, Minister of the Work Department at the Heilongjiang Federation of Social Science Associations, formally announced the approval for establishing the research base.
WANG Hongyu and YAN Rujian jointly unveiled the plaque for the Heilongjiang Intelligent Society and Population Development Research and Academic Exchange Base, marking the official launch of the initiative.
