Harbin Engineering University Hosts Seminar on Strengthening Information Capabilities of Alumni Associations in Higher Education

From January 10 to 11, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) hosted a seminar focused on enhancing the information capabilities of alumni associations within higher education institutions. Under the theme “Driving Alumni Association Development Through Digital Innovation,” the event brought together over 100 participants, including leaders and key personnel from alumni associations, foundations, and IT departments of universities across the country. Distinguished guests included HAN Duanfeng, Vice President of HEU; XU Guofeng, Vice President of Harbin Normal University; and DANG Yi, a 2003 alumnus and President of Beijing Join-Cheer Software Co., Ltd., each of whom delivered keynote speeches.

In his address, HAN Duanfeng provided an overview of HEU’s history and achievements in talent development. He emphasized that alumni are an invaluable resource for universities and that strengthening the information capabilities of alumni associations is essential for advancing alumni engagement. He expressed his hope that professionals in alumni affairs would engage in in-depth discussions on key topics related to alumni information systems, identify optimal solutions, and develop effective implementation strategies to better serve both alumni and universities, promoting mutual growth and a promising future.

XU Guofeng highlighted the efforts of the Alumni Work Research Committee of the Heilongjiang Higher Education Society in studying the unique characteristics and guiding principles of alumni relations in the modern era. He emphasized the committee’s role in fostering the high-quality development of alumni programs throughout the province. He encouraged participants to address ongoing challenges and inject fresh ideas and innovation into alumni work.

DANG Yi, representing Beijing Join-Cheer Software Co., Ltd., shared that the company, co-founded by two HEU alumni, has provided professional IT products and solutions to more than 400 universities. The company has played a key role in enhancing the efficiency of alumni associations and strengthening connections between alumni and their alma maters. Dang expressed his eagerness to collaborate on advancing the digital transformation of universities and contributing to their growth through open collaboration and practical innovation.

Throughout the seminar, participants engaged in thorough discussions on crucial topics related to alumni information systems, including data-driven strategies, data security, platform development, data collection and management, cultural project planning, and the implementation of signature alumni activities. Together, they explored actionable solutions to enhance the information capabilities of alumni associations.
