Two HEU Art Troupes Recognized as Outstanding in Provincial Selection

Recently, the results of Heilongjiang Province’s inaugural selection for outstanding student art troupes were announced. The university’s “Echoes of the Sea” Choir and 4U Family Dance Troupe received the prestigious distinction as exemplary university art troupes.

Harbin Engineering University (HEU) has effectively integrated aesthetic education into its academic framework through curriculum design, artistic performances, competitions, and hands-on experiences. These initiatives cultivate students’ appreciation for the arts and their humanistic values, contributing to the development of well-rounded, interdisciplinary talents for the modern era.

Introduction to the Award-Winning Teams:

“Echoes of the Sea” Choir

Founded in April 2008, the “Echoes of the Sea” Choir operates within HEU’s National Undergraduate Cultural Quality Education Base. The choir consists of over 120 members, all guided by a full-time instructor. It has composed an original vocal suite inspired by the spirit of the Harbin Military Engineering Institute and adapted 12 choral works. The choir’s artistic activities include “Original Aspiration and Perseverance” sharing sessions, public choral masterclasses, and spontaneous art performances. These events have been featured in national media, including CCTV News.

Since its inception, the choir has participated in and organized numerous large-scale cultural events and competitions, training over 1,000 outstanding choral performers.

Its achievements include:

· National-level: Third Prize in the National College Student Art Performance

· Provincial-level: Two First Prizes, three Second Prizes, and one Third Prize

· Over 10 awards in provincial and ministerial competitions

4U Family Dance Troupe

Founded in 2002, the 4U Family Dance Troupe is also part of the university’s National Undergraduate Cultural Quality Education Base. With more than 200 members, the troupe is guided by a full-time instructor. Utilizing the expressive power of street dance, the troupe offers students opportunities to showcase their talents, improve physical fitness, develop musicality, and enhance teamwork, enriching the campus culture.

The troupe has represented the university in various performances and competitions, earning impressive accolades, such as:

· International-level: One top award

· National-level: Champion of the inaugural CSC National College Student Dance Competition (Street Dance category, 2005)

Provincial-level: Champion of the Heilongjiang Provincial Division of the National College Student Street Dance Competition (2004–2007), along with five additional First Prizes
