Harbin Engineering University (HEU) made its debut on this prestigious list, ranking 21st nationwide. This marks a remarkable improvement from its 2022 position, positioning HEU as one of the most notable rising institutions in this year’s rankings. This achievement underscores the university's ongoing commitment to refining its technology commercialization processes and accelerating the conversion of scientific discoveries into real-world applications.

In 2023, HEU adopted innovative and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening its commercialization efforts. These included enhancing institutional frameworks, expanding university-enterprise collaborations, and developing high-end commercialization platforms. These strategies led to significant progress in the efficiency of technology transfer, driving key breakthroughs in the integration of scientific innovations with societal needs.

By leveraging the HEU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Ecosystem, the university has focused on cutting-edge fields such as marine engineering, intelligent ships, new materials, and renewable energy. HEU has fostered strategic partnerships with leading enterprises and local governments through high-end platforms that promote collaboration between industry, academia, and research. Over the past two years, the university has supported the industrialization of numerous patented technologies, creating efficient pathways for the commercialization of groundbreaking scientific developments.

To further enhance its technology commercialization efforts, HEU has optimized its intellectual property (IP) management system, focusing on the development and protection of high-value patents. The university has built a robust legal and IP framework, enabling it to explore diverse commercialization models such as technology equity investment and revenue-sharing mechanisms. These models align research outcomes more closely with market needs. Furthermore, through industry matchmaking events, innovation competitions, and entrepreneurship initiatives, HEU fosters strong connections between technological advancements, investment opportunities, and industry demands.
