On April 24, the BRICS International Research Center for Deep-Sea Resources was inaugurated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Harbin Engineering University (HEU) has joined the center and co-led international cooperation in the development of deep-sea equipment technology. It also co-organized the "BRICS Deep-Sea Resources and Environmental Sustainability" symposium. Vice President YIN Jingwei attended the launch ceremony of the center and delivered a keynote report titled "Intelligent Underwater Information Empowering Deep-Sea Unmanned Equipment" on behalf of HEU.

The establishment of the BRICS International Research Center for Deep-Sea Resources marks a critical step in addressing shared challenges such as resource scarcity, ecological protection, and equitable development among BRICS nations. It aligns with the overarching strategy of leveraging scientific and technological innovation to promote sustainable development and tackle global inequality. The center focuses on pressing global issues, including deep-sea minerals, oil and gas, cold seeps, environmental governance, energy utilization, and equipment technology development. By pooling the strengths of the BRICS nations' research capabilities, it aims to provide strategic advice and solutions for major sustainable development challenges. Through collaborative research, joint expeditions, platform co-construction, technology transfer, and talent cultivation, the center creates an open and shared international cooperation platform, enhancing the influence of BRICS countries in global ocean governance.

In his address, Vice President YIN Jingwei showcased HEU’s groundbreaking research in marine unmanned systems, emphasizing the transformative role of intelligent underwater technologies in advancing China’s marine scientific missions, integrated ocean monitoring, and deep-sea resource exploitation.
Moving forward, HEU will collaborate with BRICS research institutions to align with cutting-edge marine technology and industrial demands. The university will spearhead high-impact, interdisciplinary research, cultivate top-tier scientific talent, and strengthen global innovation capabilities. These efforts will not only enhance BRICS solidarity and consensus but also amplify the "Engineering Voice" within the international scientific community, further elevating HEU’s global influence.
