Launch of the Global Reading Relay Program for HEUers and 10th “Longgang Cup” Reading Awards Ceremony Held

On April 23, in celebration of World Book Day, the university hosted the launch ceremony of the “Fragrant Books, Patriotic Engineering” Global Reading Relay Program for HEUers, alongside the 10th “Longgang Cup” Reading Awards Ceremony. Distinguished guests included LV Kaidong, Director of the Publicity Department; XIONG Xubo, General Manager of Qingdao Longgang Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. and a 1984 alumnus of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering; and JIN Bo, General Manager of the Heilongjiang Branch of Superstar Group.

In his remarks, LV Kaidong emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting reading as a cornerstone of campus cultural development. He highlighted the creation of a unique reading ecosystem centered around the university library. LV expressed hope that the Global Reading Relay Program would embody the cultural mission of “inheriting tradition, building consensus, and connecting the world,” inspiring faculty, students, and alumni to engage in a shared reading journey. The initiative seeks to enhance cultural exchange, academic dialogue, and emotional connection among HEUers worldwide, thereby contributing to the university’s high-quality development.

During the ceremony, the HEU Alumni Reading Club was officially established, with XIONG Xubo appointed as its founding president. LV Kaidong presented the club’s official flag to mark the occasion.

A “Reading Initiative for All Faculty, Students, and Global Alumni” was launched, encouraging the entire HEU community to embrace and promote the joy of reading. The initiative aims to empower faculty, students, and alumni through literature, fostering collective support for the university’s growth and patriotic mission.

The event also marked the launch of the HEU Alumni Superstar Mobile Library and the premiere of the library’s recommended book video series, Zhizhen Yajian. The Alumni Reading Club, Faculty Reading Association, and Student Fengmu Reading Society were officially welcomed into the university’s library network, further enriching the campus reading culture.

During the 10th “Longgang Cup” Reading Awards Ceremony, honors such as the “Caring Reader Award,” “Reading Light & Shadow Award,” and “Reading Enthusiast Award” were presented. Faculty and student awardees shared their reflections and insights on the transformative power of reading.

Established in 2013 by alumnus XIONG Xubo with financial support, the “Longgang Cup” Reading Awards Program is jointly organized by the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the University Library. Over the past decade, the program has recognized and encouraged passionate student readers, with total sponsorship reaching 1.2 million yuan.
