The 11th China-Korea Workshop on Nuclear Reactor Thermal-Hydraulics Held at Harbin Engineering University

From May 12 to 15, Harbin Engineering University hosted the 11th China-Korea Workshop on Nuclear Reactor Thermal-Hydraulics (WORTH-11). Nearly 70 experts and scholars from the nuclear energy sector in South Korea joined over 80 counterparts from China to discuss the latest advancements in nuclear technology, with a focus on the integration and application prospects of digital and intelligent technologies in reactor thermal-hydraulic research.  

The conference was supported by the Chinese Nuclear Society and the Korean Nuclear Society, co-hosted by the Nuclear Power Institute of China, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and HEU, and co-organized by the Thermal Fluid Mechanics Branch of the Chinese Nuclear Society.

The opening ceremony featured addresses by GENG Jing, Assistant President of HEU; GAO Keli, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Nuclear Society; Bum-Jin CHUNG, Chairman of the Korean Nuclear Society; ZHU Jinhai, Director of the Cooperation Management Department at CNPRI; and Ki-Yong CHOI, Executive Vice President of KAERI.

GENG Jing expressed hopes that participants would engage in in-depth exchanges on the latest research findings and explore future development directions to jointly advance progress in thermal-hydraulics and related fields.

GAO Keli emphasized the importance of thematic discussions to provide innovative solutions for global nuclear energy safety.

Bum-Jin CHUNG noted that the workshop has become a cornerstone for deepening China-Korea academic collaboration, serving as a bridge for scholars, researchers, and students to share cutting-edge ideas, experimental results, and theoretical breakthroughs.

ZHU Jinhai called for enhanced Sino-Korean synergy in scientific research and talent development to build international cooperation platforms and promote high-quality growth in nuclear technology.

Ki-Yong CHOI highlighted thermal-hydraulic research as a core area of nuclear innovation and stressed the need for strengthened bilateral cooperation to address global energy transition challenges.

The workshop honored scholars for their outstanding contributions to China-Korea academic collaboration and the development of WORTH. The "Outstanding Founder" awards were presented to Won-Pil BAEK of KAERI and CHEN Bingde of CNPRI, while the "Outstanding Co-Founder" awards went to Chul-Hwa SONG of KAERI and HUANG Yanping of CNPRI.
