On June 27, the first university-level competition of the practical project for the course “Engineering System Design I” was held at the Qihang Center. GENG Jing, Assistant to the President, attended the event. Through competition, on-site defense, and function demonstration, the participating teams comprehensively showcased their overall capabilities in the entire chain of engineering design.

As a course for freshmen, “Engineering System Design I” adopts project-based teaching, with the practice of the whole project process as the driving force, and continuously focuses on forging students’ comprehensive ability to solve practical engineering problems. The course breaks down traditional disciplinary barriers and, through a team collaboration teaching model, leads students to immerse themselves in the complete engineering design process from conceptualization to product implementation. It enables students to understand mechanical design principles, 3D modeling, control technology, intelligent manufacturing, project management, and efficient team collaboration, laying a solid foundation for cultivating outstanding engineers oriented towards the future.

This semester, more than 3,200 students took the Engineering System Design course, forming over 600 innovative practice teams. After intense class-level preliminary competitions, a total of 176 teams successfully stood out and won the qualification to advance to the university-level finals with their excellent design schemes and engineering practice abilities. “This course has let us initially realize the importance of transforming from theory to practice and from individual research to team collaboration. Every link is a precious growth experience”, said YIN Nixuan, a member of the champion team in this competition.
