On July 23, 2025, the Chinese University Cycling Championships concluded in Baotou, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with the Harbin Engineering University (HEU) Cycling Team earning one gold and one silver medal in a series of highly competitive events.

The three-day championship featured 25 races across three categories—road, mountain, and track cycling—drawing over 300 elite riders from across the country.

In the Women’s Team Time Trial, the formidable trio of ZHANG Huijun, PENG Jieru, and TAN Xiao—known as the “iron triangle”—delivered an exceptional performance marked by strategy and unity. Uphill sections saw stronger riders take the lead to conserve teammates’ energy, while downhill segments allowed skilled cyclists to reduce wind resistance for the group. In the final sprint, a perfectly coordinated push secured the gold medal. This victory was a testament to their selfless teamwork, rigorous training under expert coaching, and unwavering commitment to collective success over individual accolades.

In the mixed team relay on the track, ZHANG Huijun, TAN Xiao, QIN Yuandong, CHEN Peng, and LI Haocheng captured silver, demonstrating impressive coordination and cohesion forged through intensive practice.

The men’s track sprint team—comprised of CHEN Peng, HE Yulong, and LU Chuan—also performed admirably, finishing sixth in a strong field.

Individual performances further boosted the team’s standing. HE Yulong placed seventh in the men’s 10-lap criterium; in the women’s 8-lap criterium, PENG Jieru secured sixth place while ZHANG Huijun placed fifth. Additionally, PENG Jieru finished fourth in the women’s individual time trial.

With robust institutional support and a foundation of scientific coaching, the HEU Cycling Team is well-positioned to advance to the next level—transforming teamwork into future podium finishes and continuing to build upon HEU’s proud sporting legacy.
