On October 15, CUI Jia, Chief of the People’s Daily Heilongjiang Bureau, and WANG Zhiqiu, Chief of the People’s Daily Jilin Bureau, visited Harbin Engineering University (HEU) for a research tour. SONG Yingdong, Secretary of HEU Party Committee, accompanied the delegation.


The delegation toured HEU’s Harbin Military Engineering Institute Memorial Hall. They gained a detailed understanding of the history of the institute's founding by its first president, General CHEN Geng, its legacy of cultivating numerous outstanding talents for New China’s defense technology sector, and its distinguished achievements in developing key national assets.
SONG Yingdong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed gratitude for the longstanding support and attention from the People’s Daily. He highlighted the university’s progress in talent development, scientific research, and social services, expressing hope for continued media support to help share the university's stories effectively.
CUI Jia remarked that the visit to the memorial hall provided a deep sense of the institution’s profound history and distinctive educational characteristics. She stated that the People’s Daily Heilongjiang Bureau would strengthen ties with the university and leverage its role as a leading media outlet to present, from multiple perspectives, the institution’s new commitments and contributions in pursuing high-quality development.
WANG Zhiqiu noted that HEU carries forward the spirit of its predecessor and has accumulated valuable experience while making outstanding contributions in serving the nation’s strategic priorities in shipbuilding, maritime, ocean engineering and nuclear energy. He expressed hope that this visit would foster deeper interaction between the media and the university across regions, enhancing cross-regional exchanges and cooperation to showcase the vitality of higher education in Northeast China.
