The award ceremony for the 10th “Good Design Award” (2025) was recently held in Yuhuan City, Zhejiang Province. A team from the College of Shipbuilding Engineering at Harbin Engineering University (HEU), led by Professor SUN Shili, Professor REN Huilong, Assistant Research Fellow ZHANG Weipeng, and Dr. TIAN Jing, won the Silver Award for their project “Design and R&D of Ship Wave Load and Hydroelastic Response Prediction Software.”

This is HEU’s second recognition at the competition, following the “Underwater Inspection Robot for Marine Steel Piles” project, which won the Gold Award in 2022.

The award-winning team belongs to the Academic Team of Environmental Loads and Structural Strength at the College of Shipbuilding Engineering. Over more than 40 years of development, the team has achieved international recognition in the study of ship and ocean engineering wave loads, as well as the theory and application of structural mechanics. In 2019, it was selected as one of HEU’s “Xinghai” Academic Teams. Guided by the mission of integrating “basic innovation research engineering technology product development and technical services,” the team emphasizes the mutual reinforcement of teaching and research, valuing both fundamental studies and the practical transformation of scientific achievements.

Professor SUN Shili attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the team.

The “Good Design Award” is a comprehensive national award for innovation in manufacturing design, officially registered with the National Office for Science and Technology Awards. Co-founded by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society together with Academicians LU Yongxiang and PAN Yunhe, the award honors significant scientific and technological achievements in product, system, and process design that demonstrate original, integrated, or disruptive innovation. It aims to advance breakthroughs in key technologies and promote the engineering application and industrialization of major equipment and systems.

The 10th “Good Design Award” adopted a three-stage evaluation processonline review, preliminary review, and final review. Out of all submissions, 33 projects advanced to the final round. After final presentations and defense, 10 Gold Awards, 20 Silver Awards, and 3 Elite Awards were selected.
