On November 5, a three-member delegation from Walailak University, Thailand, led by the President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, visited Harbin Engineering University (HEU). SONG Yingdong, Secretary of HEU Party Committee, met with the guests in the VIP room on the 8th floor of the Office Building.

SONG Yingdong expressed that HEU places high importance on exchanges and cooperation with Thai higher education institutions. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, he expressed hope that both sides would build on past achievements and move forward together, promoting practical outcomes in areas such as joint talent cultivation, collaborative scientific research, and Sino-Thai cultural exchanges. He stated the aim to jointly elevate the friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between the Chinese and Thai people to new heights and open a new chapter, thereby making greater contributions to advancing educational collaboration between China and Thailand and promoting mutual learning between civilizations.
Sombat Thamrongthanyawong briefly introduced the profile of Walailak University. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as a new starting point to further deepen cooperation between the two universities in areas including mutual visits, academic exchanges, and joint project development. He sincerely invited faculty and students of HEU to attend the Walailak University Research Conference scheduled for March 2026, aiming to foster substantive scientific research exchanges between the two institutions.
During the meeting, the two parties renewed the Academic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities.
Walailak University is a public comprehensive higher education institution in southern Thailand. Established in 1992, it boasts distinctive educational features and notable strengths in fields such as artificial intelligence and data science, biomedicine, and marine environmental protection.
