The first meeting of the fifth council of the Confucius Institute, jointly established by Harbin Engineering University (HEU) and Southern Pedagogical University of Ukraine, was convened on November 20. President YIN Jingwei and Andrii KRASNOZHON, Rector of Southern Pedagogical University of Ukraine, attended the meeting. Vice President YU Zhiwen presided over the meeting.

YIN Jingwei expressed gratitude on behalf of HEU to Southern Pedagogical University of Ukraine and Mr. Andrii KRASNOZHON for their support in the development of the Confucius Institute. He highlighted that Confucius Institutes worldwide are currently entering an innovative development phase driven by “digitalization and intellectualization.” The convening of this council, he noted, will further advance the institute’s transformation, upgrading, and quality enhancement. Looking ahead, he hopes both institutions will join forces to promote learning through competitions and continuously optimize the HSK tutoring system; concentrate on cultural immersion by developing specialized courses and broadening students’ international perspectives; and capitalize on momentum to improve quality, expanding the influence of branded academic conferences to build a stepping stone for student growth and success. Through close collaboration and concerted efforts, the Confucius Institute will make new and greater contributions to fostering a diverse and interactive landscape of cultural exchanges between China and Ukraine.

Andrii KRASNOZHON extended his appreciation to HEU for its consistent cooperation and steadfast support. He remarked that, through the joint efforts of both sides, the Confucius Institute has fully preserved its original platform structure and team, adopting a hybrid operational model combining online and offline activities, and has achieved remarkable results across various areas. He expressed hope that the two universities will further deepen their collaboration to jointly build an efficient and intelligent Chinese teaching network that facilitates resource sharing, contributing wisdom and strength to the global development of Chinese language education.

During the meeting, YU Zhiwen and MUZYCHENKO, Vice Rector of Southern Pedagogical University of Ukraine, announced the list of Chinese and Ukrainian members of the fifth council and the management office of the Confucius Institute. The council also received a work report from the Ukrainian Dean outlining the Confucius Institute’s activities for the 2024–2025 academic year.
