On December 1, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) held a seminar on advancing the development of control and intelligent disciplines.

On behalf of HEU, Vice President ZHAO Yuxin expressed sincere appreciation to the experts for their long-term care, support, and guidance. He introduced the university’s history, distinctive features, and the progress made in developing control and intelligent disciplines. ZHAO noted that HEU has consistently benchmarked itself against world-class standards, strengthened international exchanges and cooperation, and promoted the alignment of discipline development with global norms. He expressed the hope that, through consultations and discussions with international experts, the direction of discipline development would be further clarified, reform and capacity building advanced through evaluation, and the international influence of HEU’s control and intelligent disciplines continuously enhanced. He also invited the experts to conduct a comprehensive evaluation from an international perspective and global standards and to offer forward-looking and constructive suggestions. HEU, he emphasized, will fully incorporate the experts’ recommendations to elevate the discipline’s development to a new level.

The consultation and discussion session was chaired by Professor Juan Rodríguez-Andina from the University of Vigo, Spain. Participating experts offered a range of insights and recommendations.

The experts unanimously affirmed the achievements of HEU’s control and intelligent disciplines. They emphasized that future development should be closely aligned with major national strategic needs, further strengthen the distinctive focus on shipbuilding and marine-related fields, enhance basic and frontier research, promote interdisciplinary integration, and expand international exchanges and cooperation. They also highlighted the importance of amplifying HEU’s voice on the global academic stage and improving academic standards and the effectiveness of international collaboration.

The head of the School of Intelligent Science and Engineering, who presided over the meeting, stated that the school will carefully study and fully adopt the experts’ feedback and suggestions, and will continue to advance the discipline’s development and construction.

From November 28 to December 1, HEU also carried out an international consultation and discussion on control and intelligent disciplines. During this period, the experts participated in the 1st IEEE Journal Editors-in-Chief Forum in the fields of Control, Intelligence, and Electrical Engineering hosted by HEU.
