2025 Annual Conference of China Social Work Academy Held at HEU

From December 5 to 7, the 2025 Annual Conference of the China Social Work Academy (CSWA), together with the Academic Forum on “Chinese Modernization and the High-Quality Development of Specialized Social Work in the New Era,” was held at Harbin Engineering University (HEU).

On behalf of HEU, Vice President YAN Rujian extended a warm welcome to the attending leaders, experts, and guests. He noted that specialized social work is a social science that integrates humanistic care with practical application. HEU, he emphasized, attaches great importance to the development of the humanities and social sciences and has achieved multiple breakthroughs in disciplinary development in recent years. He expressed his hope that this conference would serve as a platform for in-depth communication and exchange among experts and scholars, fostering synergy and consensus, and ultimately contributing to the high-quality development of specialized social work.

WANG Sibin, Chairman of CSWA, stated that the academy is willing to shoulder its mission alongside colleagues nationwide, move forward with determination, and promote the high-quality development of social work in the new era through practical actions, thereby contributing to the advancement of Chinese modernization.

MA Fengzhi, President of the China Association for Social Work Education (CASWE), remarked that CASWE and CSWA will further deepen cooperation, systematically study and summarize China’s rich practical experiences in specialized social work during the process of Chinese modernization, and contribute wisdom and strength to building an independent Chinese social work knowledge system and advancing social work with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

LIU Neng, Secretary-General of the National Supervisory Committee for MSW Education, stated that the committee will continue to optimize training models, improve evaluation systems, and promote the integration of education and industry. He expressed his expectation that CSWA would continue to serve as a bridge and academic leader, bringing together the insights of experts and scholars and working closely with the committee to jointly write a new chapter in the high-quality development of specialized social work in the new era.

During the conference, the inauguration ceremony of the Department of Social Work at HEU was also held.

The conference featured two plenary forums and six parallel sub-forums. At the plenary forums, six professors, including Professor WANG Sibin of Peking University, delivered keynote addresses. The plenary sessions were chaired by Professor CHEN Shuqiang of China Youth University of Political Studies and Professor FAN Bin of East China University of Science and Technology.
