HEU Holds Conference on High-Quality Development of Nuclear Science and Technology Discipline

On December 12, to mark the 20th anniversary of the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) held the Conference on High-Quality Development of Nuclear Science and Technology Discipline. The event served as both a retrospective of the college’s 60-year history in nuclear education and a strategic launchpad for its future.

SONG Yingdong, Party Secretary of HEU, he described the event as a “blueprint for the future.” He emphasized the university’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with industry units to bolster national development.

SUN Yufa, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), lauded the college for cultivating the “backbone” of China’s nuclear workforce and hoped the institution to continue driving innovation in advanced energy and equipment construction.

YU Junchong, Member of CAE, praised the “rigorous and realistic” academic heritage of HEU’s faculty, encouraging the college to pursue interdisciplinary integration to solve complex engineering challenges in nuclear power.

SU Guanghui, Member of CAE, representing sister universities, Xi’an Jiaotong University, called for deeper collaboration to consolidate the “cornerstone of national security.”

ZHANG Tao, General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), highlighted HEU’s role in supporting the high-quality growth of the nuclear industry and proposed a higher-level collaborative innovation system.

HAN Yeliang, Director of the Nuclear Technology Application Division of the Second Department of System Engineering of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, commended the college’s discipline construction and its contribution to national defense.

FENG Youcai, Deputy Director of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center, emphasized the importance of modern safety governance and announced the co-construction of a joint laboratory.

GAO Zhigang, General Manager of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power of China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), noted that new strategic agreements would inject “strong momentum” into the innovative development of nuclear technology.

WANG Anmin, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Nuclear Industry Education Association and professor YAN Changqi from the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, both reaffirmed the sacred mission of talent cultivation.

Representing the alumni,SHEN Feng, Vice President of the Central Research Institute of  State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), challenged students to "dare to innovate and take responsibility" for the national industry.

YIN Jingwei and XIN Feng signed the agreement on deepening cooperation between the two sides. SONG Yingdong and ZHANG Tao witnessed the signing on the stage.

YIN Jingwei and TANG Chuanbao signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement between the two sides.

YU Zhiwen signed strategic cooperation framework agreements with FENG Youcai, Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center, HU Dengxin, Chairman of the Trade Union of  Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., and HE Guowei, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Junhe Atomic Technology Co., Ltd. respectively.

Relevant persons in charge of the College of Nuclear Science and Technology signed agreements with JIAO Xuesheng, the Party Secretary of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, China Institute of Atomic Energy, ZHAN Feng, Dean of the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, Naval University of Engineering, and HOU Suqing, Director of the Education Department, Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences respectively.

In a poignant moment, the college awarded the title of “Lifetime Honorary Teacher” to WANG Zhaoxiang, one of the original faculty members of the PLA Military Engineering Institute.

Teachers, students and alumni of the College of Nuclear Science and Technology performed a poetry recital titled Coming from “Nuclear” on site.

LI Jiangang presented on the “Development and Future Outlook of Fusion Technology.”

XING Ji discussed the “Development Outlook of Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Technology.”

Parallel seminars were also held, focusing on industry demand, alumni engagement, and collaborative talent cultivation, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the high-quality development of the nuclear discipline.
