On December 27, the Second Nuclear Technology Innovation and Development Conference of the Huludao Base of the China Institute of Atomic Energy and the Third Meeting of the Integrated Fast Reactor Innovation Consortium were held at the Huludao Base. During the conference, the Joint Laboratory for Accelerator Technology and Application, co-established by the university and the China Institute of Atomic Energy, was officially inaugurated. XIN Feng, Deputy General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, YANG Hongyi, President of the China Institute of Atomic Energy, and ZHANG Shimei, Deputy Secretary of Harbin Engineering University (HEU), jointly unveiled the plaque for the laboratory.

The establishment of the Joint Laboratory for Accelerator Technology and Application by HEU and the China Institute of Atomic Energy aims to deepen cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as accelerator physics and ion beam applications. Through resource sharing and complementary advantages, the collaboration will further strengthen integration across scientific research, talent cultivation, and academic exchanges. This initiative will support the university’s first-class discipline development and enhance the technological innovation capacity of the enterprise, injecting new momentum into the high-quality advancement of the nuclear industry.

In May 2025, the first commercially operational domestically produced tandem accelerator in China, jointly developed by the university and the China Institute of Atomic Energy, was officially put into service. The equipment features dual-beam injection and irradiation-corrosion target chambers, enabling materials irradiation studies under multi-physical field coupling conditions such as “dual-beam irradiation, high temperature, and corrosion.” It is applied in fields including reactor material irradiation effect evaluation and radiation effect research, providing high-quality, stable beam services for the industry and offering a crucial platform for fundamental research on nuclear materials and radiation effect assessment in China.
