On January 6, the 2026 Harbin International Ice and Snow Economy Expo (referred to as the “Ice and Snow Expo”) opened at the Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Center. President YIN Jingwei delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Multiple pieces of extreme cold-weather equipment developed by the university were showcased at the expo.

Under the title “Intelligent Exploration of Icy Seas, Crafting Key Technologies from Snow – Harbin Engineering University’s Polar Technologies Empower the New Ice and Snow Economy,” YIN Jingwei highlighted how Harbin Engineering University (HEU), rooted in Heilongjiang, leverages its research strengths in polar vessels, unmanned equipment, and related fields to contribute to the development of the province’s ice and snow economy.
The three-day expo features a total exhibition area of over 20,000 square meters, including one central exhibition zone and six thematic zones. Eleven achievements from the university in polar equipment, polar power systems, polar navigation, polar communications, polar materials, and ice and snow equipment were displayed together in the Ice and Snow Equipment exhibition area.
On January 5, the CCTV-2 Economic Half Hour program reported on the ice and snow sports human motion capture and training system developed by the team of Associate Professor GUAN Lianwu from HEU’s College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering. The system provides essential equipment for ice and snow sports instruction, training, and competition, promotes public participation in winter sports, and supports Harbin in fostering the ice and snow economy as a new growth driver.

The 18th International University Snow Sculpture Competition, currently being held by the university, has also become one of the distinctive features of the Ice and Snow Expo, injecting cultural vitality into the ice and snow economy.
Moving forward, HEU will continue to focus on supporting the growth of Heilongjiang’s ice and snow economy, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, further enrich the connotation of its cultural brand, promote mutual reinforcement between ice and snow technology and ice and snow culture, and contribute HEU’s strengths to national development and construction.
