On March 29, Vice President YU Zhiwen led a delegation to AECC Shenyang Engine Research Institute for a special research visit, engaging in in-depth discussions on further deepening strategic cooperation and advancing high-quality development in the power and propulsion sector.

YU Zhiwen stated that both AECC Shenyang Engine Research Institute and HEU (Harbin Engineering University) are key innovators in the field of power and propulsion, with complementary strengths. He expressed hope that the visit would serve as a new starting point for deepening strategic coordination and fostering closer collaboration, jointly exploring pathways to integrate education, talent development, and scientific innovation, while contributing to the high-quality advancement of China’s power and propulsion endeavors.

ZHANG Xichang, Deputy Director of the AECC Shenyang Engine Research Institute, remarked that HEU’s foundational research capabilities and quality of talent cultivation in its areas of strength are highly impressive, and that the two sides share a solid cooperation foundation with broad prospects. He expressed anticipation that both parties would take the 15th Five-Year Plan as an opportunity to further expand cooperation areas, innovate collaboration mechanisms, and jointly set a new benchmark for industry-university collaborative innovation.

During the visit, the two sides reached broad consensus on deepening collaboration. The university will fully leverage its systemic strengths in fundamental research to complement the institutes engineering capabilities, fostering a two-way empowerment between basic research and engineering applications. Both parties will facilitate immersive research stints for university faculty at the institute, share international cooperation resources, and jointly enhance academic influence. They will also establish a more flexible talent exchange mechanism, jointly cultivate high-caliber master’s and doctoral students in the engine field, and continuously supply top-tier innovative talent to the industry.

Founded in 1961, the AECC Shenyang Engine Research Institute is the first aviation engine design and research institute in the People’s Republic of China. It has witnessed the historic leap of China’s aviation power industry from scratch. Notably, the successful development of the “Taihang” engine marked a new phase of independent innovation in China’s aviation engine endeavors.
