The 7th National Forum for Young Scientists on Composite Structural Mechanics was held from April 24 to 26 in Qingdao, Shandong Province. SONG Yingdong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Harbin Engineering University (HEU), attended the event and delivered a speech. Professor WU Linzhi, Chairman of the Forum, presided over the opening ceremony.

The forum focused on in depth exchanges over cutting edge topics including the integration of fundamental research and engineering practice in composite structural mechanics, advanced manufacturing process mechanics, and AI enabled composite design.

SONG Yingdong briefly introduced HEU’s history, distinctive educational features, and other fundamental aspects. He noted that the university is committed to deepening interdisciplinary integration and has vigorously advanced research and applications of composite structural mechanics in fields such as shipbuilding, aerospace, and marine engineering, achieving a series of important breakthroughs. He encouraged the participating experts and young scholars to take this forum as an opportunity to focus on the deep integration of basic research and engineering applications, engage in thorough discussions around the frontiers of composite structural mechanics, strengthen collaboration, and continuously produce original, groundbreaking high level outcomes. Doing so, he added, will help serve major national strategic needs and drive the high quality development of the composite materials industry.

During the plenary session, Professor SONG Yingdong delivered a report entitled “Structural Strength Analysis and Design of Ceramic Matrix Composites for Aero Engines.”
Professors LI Yan from Tongji University, YANG Jinglei from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and GUO Licheng from Harbin Institute of Technology each gave plenary presentations on their respective research areas.

On the afternoon of April 24, during the invited plenary session, Professors WEI Xiaoding from Peking University, LIU Liwu from Harbin Institute of Technology, LIU Yilun from Xi’an Jiaotong University, YANG Li from Xidian University, XU Yingjie from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and LIU Zhanli from Tsinghua University shared excellent talks with the young scholars on leading edge topics in the discipline.
On the morning of April 25, in the young scholars exchange session, 18 early career researchers, including Professor TIAN Kuo from Dalian University of Technology and Associate Professor ZHANG Weizhao from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, presented their latest research findings and innovative approaches, as well as shared practical insights from their exploration of new frontiers.

The National Forum for Young Scientists on Composite Structural Mechanics is a flagship academic exchange event jointly established by the Chinese Society for Composite Materials and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The forum has always been young scientist led and rooted in academic excellence. It is dedicated to creating a high level platform for young researchers in the field of composite structural mechanics to engage in vibrant intellectual exchange and resource networking, thereby fostering the growth of emerging talents and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
