The opening ceremony of the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship International Summer School was held at Harbin Engineering University (HEU) on June 9. President YIN Jingwei attended the ceremony and delivered a speech.

YIN Jingwei extended a warm welcome to the participating students who had traveled from afar, and briefly introduced HEU’s history, educational characteristics, and other basic information. He noted that the International Summer School is a flagship international program developed by HEU. It also serves as an important platform for young people from around the world to experience firsthand China’s speed of technological innovation, the warmth of its culture, and its development vitality. HEU is committed to building an international exchange platform, supporting the growth of young talents, and promoting academic connectivity, cultural mutual learning, and people-to-people bonds between China and other countries.

Yin Jingwei put forward three expectations for all summer school participants. First, to delve deeply into academic frontiers and jointly explore the future of science and technology. Second, to gain a multifaceted understanding of China and appreciate the depth of its cultural heritage. Third, to embrace an open mindset, forge global friendships, and serve as a bridge for friendly exchanges between China and other countries.

During the ceremony, a series of activities were held, including the introduction of distinguished guests, a flag-presentation ceremony, and a presentation on international student admission policies. These were interspersed with multicultural performances, fun interactive games, and prize draws. Chinese and international students performed together on stage and participated enthusiastically, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.

As a flagship international initiative of HEU, the International Summer School was approved to offer nine Chinese Government Scholarship summer programs this year. The number of applicants, participating countries, and the overall scale of the programs have all reached new highs, making it an important vehicle for showcasing the university’s academic achievements, expanding international cooperation channels, and cultivating a pool of high-quality international students. This year’s summer school covers a wide range of fields with distinctive disciplinary features, and includes specialized courses, academic seminars, cultural experiences, and off-campus visits.
