Harbin Engineering University held the launch ceremony for its first AI Creative Application Contest and the inauguration of the AIGC Student Club on June 18. LI Rongsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of HEU, attended the event and delivered an address.

In his speech, LI Rongsheng outlined three key requirements for effectively leveraging AI in innovative practices to solve real-world problems: first, to be bold and pioneering—acting as “trailblazers” in the AI era; second, to foster collaboration and connectivity—serving as “boundary-breakers” in educational reform; and third, to focus on deep application and translation—acting as “bridges” that convert outcomes into tangible results.

LI Rongsheng, together with relevant university officials, jointly launched the contest, while responsible leaders unveiled the AIGC Club plaque. A representative from the School of Computer Science and Technology delivered a presentation introducing the event and its categories.
XU Ke, Senior Solutions Director for the Education Sector at Volcano Engine, spoke on behalf of the contest’s corporate partner. He expressed that the company would leverage the contest as an opportunity to deepen university-industry collaboration, exploring diverse applications of AI in teaching and learning, scientific research, and smart campus development, thereby jointly opening a new chapter in supporting national strategic development through AI.
XU Chen, faculty advisor of the AIGC Club, stated that he would serve as both a “guide” and a “guardian” for students on their AI exploration journey—rigorously steering the club’s direction, coordinating access to resources, and providing sustained mentorship throughout project development to help students transform their creative ideas into meaningful innovation outcomes.
WU Xiangling, a student representative of the AIGC Club, expressed her commitment to embracing AI proactively as a tool for exploration and problem-solving. She affirmed that the club would serve as a home base and the contest as a stage, using creativity to illuminate a smarter campus.
The inaugural HEU AI Creative Application Contest is themed “Embrace AI · Envision the Future” and features three competition tracks: Intelligent Agent Innovative Applications, WPS AI PPT Design, and AI + Campus Creative Design. Prizes include first, second, and third awards as well as excellence awards in proportion to entries, with a special “Best Popularity Team” award for designated tracks. Outstanding entries will be showcased on campus and considered for practical implementation, while winning teams will receive corporate coaching and internship referrals.
The HEU AIGC Club is a student-led academic and technological organization formed voluntarily based on shared interests. Open to students across all grade levels and disciplines, the club aims to build a university-wide platform for AI exchange and practice, promote AI-empowered campus development and governance, enhance AI literacy among faculty and students, support the cultivation of top-tier innovative talent, and foster an institution-wide culture of embracing AI-driven innovation.
