On June 25, XING Haiming, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Korea, visited the Yantai Research Institute. The delegation was received by ZHANG Yanghong, Party Secretary of the Institute; SUN Shuzheng, Deputy Director; LI Xiuzhi, Chief Expert of the University’s Institute for Marine Science and Technology Development Strategy; LI Lingdong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Institute’s Secretariat; and CHEN Jun, Deputy Director of the Yantai Science and Technology Innovation Center.

During the meeting, ZHANG Yanghong briefed XING Haiming on the Institute’s positioning, disciplinary framework, talent cultivation, and industry-academia development. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on comprehensive cooperation in areas including China-ROK educational exchanges, scientific and technological synergy, and joint cultivation of high-caliber talent, and explored feasible pathways for future collaborative initiatives.

The 83rd session of the “Tuohai” Forum was held concurrently, during which XING Haiming delivered a special ideological and political lecture to faculty and students of the Institute.

Drawing on his over three decades of diplomatic service, XING Haiming shared the core tenets of Chinese diplomacy in the new era from the perspectives of international dynamics and diplomatic practice. He illustrated the fundamental mission of diplomats in representing national interests and safeguarding state sovereignty through real-world cases from China-Mongolia and China-ROK bilateral cooperation.
XING Haiming highlighted four guiding principles that diplomats should always uphold: a devotion to serving the nation; a commitment to the cause with a sense of responsibility regardless of personal recognition; a drive for continuous learning and self-renewal; and a modest, steadfast character unmoved by fame or gain. He encouraged young students to integrate their personal development into the broader national agenda and strive to become forward-looking, globally minded young talents of the new era.
During the interactive session, XING Haiming responded to questions from faculty and students on topics including overseas postings, global vision, and youth development. He urged them to strengthen their professional foundations, broaden their international perspectives, and enhance their overall capabilities, so as to realize their personal value in serving national strategies.
