From 18 to 20 July, the 3rd National Symposium on Marine Engineering and Ship Materials Technology was held in Harbin. Nearly 300 experts and scholars from CSSC, institutions under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, leading universities and marine engineering equipment manufacturers attended the event.

HAN Duanfeng, Vice President of HEU, and ZHAO Tan, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Metal Material for Marine Equipment and Application, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks.
HAN Duanfeng noted that global ocean development is expanding rapidly into deep and distant waters as well as polar regions, placing higher requirements on the independent innovation capacity of the ship and marine engineering industry. HEU will continue to focus on key areas including high-strength marine engineering steel, marine titanium alloys and long-term anti-corrosion protection, striving to bridge the gap between basic research and engineering application. He expressed the hope that the symposium would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation between universities and local governments, enterprises and research institutes, advance the in-depth integration of innovation, industrial, talent and capital chains, and jointly support the iterative upgrading of green, intelligent, polar-capable and deep-sea oriented new-generation ships and marine engineering equipment.
ZHAO Tan stated that confronting global challenges posed by extreme environments such as high pressure in the deep sea and low temperatures in polar regions, establishing an independent and controllable development paradigm for marine materials is a shared mission of the entire industry. The Ansteel Group laboratory has long focused on key technologies in material design and extreme manufacturing, adhered to the parallel development of basic and applied research, and actively promoted the commercialisation of research outcomes. Going forward, the laboratory will uphold the principle of open sharing and looks forward to collaborating with all parties to accelerate the implementation of scientific research achievements.
During the symposium, participating experts held in-depth exchanges and discussions on thematic areas including design and manufacturing of ships and marine engineering equipment, application of high-performance steel and titanium alloys, corrosion protection technologies, and welding and additive manufacturing.
