The 3rd Academic Conference on Intelligent Marine Vehicle Technology was recently hosted at Harbin Engineering University (HEU). The event was attended by QIU Zhiming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; YIN Jingwei, President of HEU; AI Yanhui, Deputy Director of the 710th Research Institute of CSSC; and JIANG Lei, Deputy Director of the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

President YIN Jingwei noted that HEU has notched up a series of landmark achievements in intelligent marine vehicle technology in recent years. He expressed the expectation that the conference would serve as a pivotal opportunity to build consensus and catalyse innovation, contributing collective wisdom and impetus to advancing the intelligent development of marine vehicles.

AI Yanhui stated that while domestic stakeholders across industry, academia and research sectors have formed a pattern of collaborative research, prominent challenges remain, including pending breakthroughs in autonomous swarm technology and sluggish commercialisation of research outcomes. He highlighted the urgent need for concerted cross-sector efforts to tackle these difficulties, and called on experts and scholars to take the conference as a platform to jointly overcome core technical barriers in intelligent marine vehicles, streamline the innovation industrial chain, and contribute research strengths to national development.

Academician QIU Zhiming fully affirmed the founding mission of the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Marine Vehicle Technology. He encouraged participating scholars to respond to major national strategic needs and address core pain points in industrial development, and to focus on priority fields such as the intelligent design of marine vehicles, autonomous navigation and control, deep and far-sea operations, swarm coordination, and adaptation to extreme marine environments, so as to continuously make breakthroughs in critical core technologies.

During the opening ceremony, distinguished experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches, including QIAO Yuekun, General Manager of Deep Sea Zhiren (Guangzhou) Technology Co., Ltd.; Professor YU Junzhi from Peking University; WANG Dongping, Research Fellow at the 710th Research Institute of CSSC; and Professor JIANG Yanqing from HEU. Focusing on the field of intelligent marine vehicle technology, they shared technical advances based on their respective research directions, and delivered in-depth elaborations from multiple perspectives covering underwater collaborative operations, novel concepts of underwater bionics, and underwater autonomous intelligence.

Five parallel sub-forums were held concurrently at the conference. Each session carried out in-depth discussions around core dimensions of intelligent marine vehicle technology, including overall system design, multi-source perception and intelligent control.
