On August 3, the 2026 Annual Academic Committee Meeting of the Frontiers Science Center for Extreme Oceanic Environment Wave Fields (Ministry of Education) was held at Harbin Engineering University (HEU). Academicians YANG Desen, CHEN Shiyi, SONG Junqiang, LI Huajun, LIU Qingyu, along with other distinguished experts in naval architecture and ocean engineering, gathered at the meeting to comprehensively review the center’s phased construction achievements and chart a clear course for its high-quality development. HEU President YIN Jingwei attended and delivered a speech, and all key research faculty of the center were present.
President YIN Jingwei, on behalf of HEU, expressed sincere gratitude to the academic committee for its longstanding and meticulous guidance. He stated that the Frontiers Science Center for Extreme Oceanic Environment Wave Fields serves as a vital platform for HEU’s fundamental research and key technological endeavors in deep-sea original innovation, with the goal of delving deep into underlying basic theories and breaking through current bottlenecks in deep-sea technology. HEU will continue to provide robust supporting guarantees, enabling the center to conduct organized basic research, make sustained breakthroughs in original innovation and critical technologies, and contribute wisdom and strength to national development.
Professor ZHANG Aman, Executive Director of the center, delivered a comprehensive progress report, objectively analyzing existing challenges at the current stage and outlining future development strategies in terms of frontier research orientation, upgrade of research paradigms, and improvement of the technology transfer chain.
Academician YANG Desen, Director of the Academic Committee, chaired the expert deliberation session. Committee members engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues and put forward a series of strategic and instructive recommendations.
Professor DUAN Wenyang, Chief Scientist of the center, affirmed on behalf of the entire research team that they will adhere to the committee’s advice, benchmark against the Ministry of Education’s standards for frontier science centers, continue to strengthen organized basic research, make integrated use of large-scale research facilities, build robust and stable research teams, and steadily enhance the center’s capacity for original innovation in extreme ocean wave dynamics, striving to become a world-class marine fundamental research hub.
It is noted that the Frontiers Science Center for Extreme Oceanic Environment Wave Fields was approved for establishment in December 2021, as the first Ministry of Education Frontiers Science Center in Heilongjiang Province. Since its inception, the center has focused on key core areas of multi-field coupling in extreme oceanic environments, leveraged its unique large-scale experimental facilities, undertaken multiple major national research projects, won several national science and technology awards, and continuously cultivated a large number of professionals for the shipbuilding and maritime industries.
