The 2026 Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (CSNAME) was held at Harbin Engineering University (HEU) on 4 August.

Under the theme “Pooling Wisdom for Marine and Offshore Innovation, Forging a Future Through Technology”, the conference opened with remarks from CHEN Su, Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, and YIN Jingwei, President of HEU. WANG Junli, Secretary-General of CSNAME, chaired the plenary session.

YIN Jingwei noted that HEU has been deeply engaged in major scientific research endeavours spanning marine engineering equipment, marine resources, marine power systems and underwater acoustic engineering. The university has systematically advanced cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields such as marine artificial intelligence and marine integrated circuits, secured continuous breakthroughs in key technologies for the research and development of major marine and offshore equipment, and consolidated its standing as a strategic scientific and technological force in the sector. He observed that CSNAME has long served as a vital platform for industry innovation, and expressed the hope that this annual conference – as a bridge for industry-university-research-application collaboration – would unite all stakeholders to tackle core technical challenges, deepen long-term cooperation mechanisms, accelerate the translation of laboratory breakthroughs into engineering and industrial applications, and jointly drive the high-quality development of China’s shipbuilding industry.

CHEN Su remarked that Heilongjiang Province stands as a national highland for marine and offshore scientific research and talent cultivation. HEU has delivered remarkable outcomes by overcoming a host of key technical hurdles in fields including underwater acoustics, marine power and deep-sea equipment. The provincial Department of Science and Technology will continue to bolster support for academic societies, universities and enterprises, facilitate the translation and industrialisation of cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements in Heilongjiang, and provide solid scientific and technological backing for the province’s high-quality growth.

The conference comprised a main forum and eight parallel forums addressing cutting-edge and high-priority topics across the industry. It also featured award presentations for scientific and technological honours and dedicated achievement release sessions, forming an in-depth collaborative exchange platform for the industry, academia, research and application sectors.

During the keynote address session, WU Kai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; YE Cong, Director of the 702nd Research Institute of CSSC; and ZHANG Aman, a professor at HEU’s College of Shipbuilding Engineering, delivered speeches respectively.

The conference also hosted the award ceremony for the 2025 CSNAME Science and Technology Awards. A number of HEU faculty members – SHI Dongyan, ZHAO Xuanlie, MA Teng and FENG Guangsheng – received honours including the Special Prize and First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award, and the First Prize and Second Prize of the Technological Invention Award.

CSNAME carries out wide-ranging and productive work in academic exchange, scientific and technological evaluation, achievement translation, standard development, talent cultivation, science popularisation and policy consultation, and serves as a key social organisation advancing the development of shipbuilding and ocean engineering science and technology in China.
