Recently, the 7th Editorial Board and the 2nd Youth Editorial Board Working Meeting of Journal of Marine Science and Application (JMSA) was convened at Harbin Engineering University (HEU).
Carlos Guedes Soares, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and HAN Duanfeng, Vice President of HEU, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. More than 20 editorial experts from across the country and all staff of the Journal Editorial Office participated in the event.
In his address, HAN Duanfeng noted that running JMSA well is of great significance for HEU to secure a stronger voice in the international academic arena. The current national drive for world-class journal development has brought important opportunities for the leapfrog growth of JMSA. The journal should benchmark itself against top international standards, and improve its academic quality, review efficiency and international reach in an all-round manner. The university will continue to empower and support journal development, and hopes that the editor-in-chief team, all editorial board members and the editorial office will work in synergy to jointly promote the journal’s leapfrog development, and enhance the international influence of its characteristic disciplines such as naval architecture and marine engineering, underwater acoustic engineering, and nuclear science and technology.
Carlos stated that internationalisation is the lifeline of a journal, and JMSA should be built into an academic platform shared by marine science and technology scholars worldwide. He hoped that the journal would uphold the bottom line of academic quality, improve the peer review mechanism, systematically build its international brand image, and fully leverage international academic platforms and digital communication tools to boost its global visibility.
ZHANG Aman, Editor-in-Chief of JMSA, delivered a thematic work report on the journal, comprehensively reviewing its development progress and outlining the implementation pathways for influence enhancement and world-class journal development.
During the thematic discussion session, editorial experts had in-depth exchanges on key issues including submission quality improvement, special issue and column planning, international communication and promotion, fostering confidence in academic culture, and review mechanism optimisation, and put forward many forward-looking and actionable suggestions.
HEU attaches great importance to the leapfrog development of JMSA. It has incorporated the journal into its key “Double First-Class” development layout and listed it as a key cultivation target under the World-Class Science and Technology Journals programme of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, providing all-round support for its construction. Going forward, the university will anchor its goal of world-class standing, and with more ambitious academic aspirations and more solid journal management practices, strive to build JMSA into a globally influential academic hub for marine science and technology, so as to provide solid journal support for the university’s discipline development and cause advancement.
