Academic Conference on Aerothermodynamics of Thermal Engines and Fluid Machinery of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics Held in Harbin

On September 12, the 2026 Academic Conference on Aerothermodynamics of Thermal Engines and Fluid Machinery of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics was held in Harbin. More than one thousand experts and scholars from universities and research institutions across the country conducted exchanges and discussions around 11 frontier directions, including aerodynamic thermodynamics and overall engine performance, turbine flow and design, and compressor dynamic flow stability.

ZHU Junqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; YANG Desen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering of Harbin Engineering University (HEU); CHEN Haisheng, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics; and SONG Yingdong, Party Secretary of HEU, attended the opening ceremony. YU Zhiwen, Vice President of HEU, presided over the opening ceremony. WANG Zhongyi, Head of the Organization Department, attended the conference.

SONG Yingdong noted that HEU’s power engineering and engineering thermophysics discipline has made important contributions to the cultivation of first-class talents and scientific research in China’s ship power field. He pointed out that the fields of aerothermodynamics of thermal engines and fluid machinery are both a frontier battlefield for basic research and a key lever for achieving industrial transformation and upgrading. He expressed the hope that participating experts will actively share the latest scientific research results, exchange frontier research ideas, and discuss industrial technical challenges, jointly promoting the development of China’s aerothermodynamics of thermal engines and fluid machinery technology, and contributing wisdom and strength to achieving high-level scientific and technological development.

ZHU Junqiang stated that the development of the engineering thermophysics discipline should seize opportunities for cross-disciplinary integration such as artificial intelligence and digital twins, adhere to the foundations of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, and at the same time do a good job in intelligent empowerment design. He stressed the need to persist in going to the front line, discovering and solving real problems, and deepening industry-university-research-application collaboration, and expressed the hope that participating experts will engage in in-depth exchanges and make greater contributions to the development of the country’s power industry.

CHEN Haisheng remarked that he hopes colleagues will persist in self-discipline, uphold the “craftsmanship” character of excellence and innovation and the “seed” mindset of being willing to endure loneliness, and continuously inject “ordered energy” into scientific research with high-quality knowledge and thinking. He encouraged them to proactively challenge difficult topics and tackle real problems, achieving orderly improvement of scientific cognition through overcoming difficulties. He also encouraged them to remain open, conduct cross-disciplinary research, and achieve leaps through the fusion of ideas.

At the keynote report session, LING Wenhui of Beijing Power Machinery Institute, QIN Daqing of Harbin Electric Corporation Harbin Electric Machinery Company Limited, WANG Jianping of Peking University, ZHU Zuchao of Hefei General Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd., and LIU Long of Harbin Engineering University respectively delivered special reports.

After the keynote reports, the conference will also hold 37 sub-forum reports (including 89 specially invited thematic reports) around aspects such as aerodynamic thermodynamics and overall engine performance.
