During the 2026 summer vacation, over 300 HEUers in 18 study tour groups travelled across eight countries on three continents and Hong Kong, China. From the University of Cambridge to top laboratories in North America, from German to Southeast Asian, HEUers expanded their cognitive boundaries and honed core capabilities through immersive study tours, engaging with the world with youthful vigour and growing in the broader global landscape.

HEU students connected with the world’s top universities, experienced global academic frontiers immersively, and grew through authentic research settings.

At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, students entered the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory for a three-week “research intensive programme”.

At the University of Cambridge, HEU students experienced the university’s traditional collegiate education model first-hand, with courses delivered by academicians of the European Academy of Sciences.

At the National University of Singapore, classroom studies, university-enterprise visits and competition training were integrated. Students attended cutting-edge lectures by leading professors and completed practical training at local Fortune Global 500 enterprises. At Nanyang Technological University, students effectively addressed undergraduates’ shortcomings in research initiation and academic writing through chemistry and materials science programmes.

HEU students stepped beyond the classroom into the global industrial frontline, experiencing the power of in-depth industry-university-research integration in real-world industrial scenarios.

In Germany, HEU students embarked on an 11-day “scientific innovation study tour”.

Thirty master’s and doctoral students from HEU’s National Academy of Excellence in Engineering travelled to Seoul, South Korea, to join a cutting-edge science and technology study programme hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.

Study tour groups visited the University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and well-known local enterprises, held in-depth exchanges with university professors, explored industry-university-research integration paths through on-site visits, learnt about industry employment and talent demand, and broadened their industrial horizons.

Various schools organised targeted, professional in-depth study programmes for students at overseas top universities, focusing on disciplinary frontiers.

Thirty undergraduates from the Green Intelligent Ship Engineering Xinghai Leading Class and 11 postgraduates from the School of Naval Architecture Engineering visited South Korea for international academic exchange, holding inter-university dialogues at Seoul National University of Science and Technology and accumulating valuable experience for international joint training.

A joint study group of 21 undergraduates from the Xinghai Leading Class of the School of Aerospace Engineering and 6 PhD students from the Yantai Research Institute explored interdisciplinary research frontiers at Seoul National University of Science and Technology.

Four undergraduates from the School of Power and Energy Engineering travelled to the University of Padua in Italy, visiting its nuclear fusion research institute and local small and medium-sized enterprises.

Thirty-three undergraduates from the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering attended courses at Universiti Sains Malaysia to improve their professional English proficiency. All 29 students of the 2025 Xinghai Leading Class cohort from the School of Computer Science and Technology went to Nanyang Technological University in Singapore for a themed study tour.

The School of Information and Communication Engineering, together with the School of Mathematical Sciences, organised more than 30 undergraduates to visit Hamburg University of Technology in Germany, inspiring new research ideas through interdisciplinary exchange.

Seven teachers and students from the School of Nuclear Science and Technology attended an international summer camp at Bauman Moscow State Technical University in Russia.

Going forward, HEU will continue to support students to pursue their professions with a global perspective, and write a chapter of youthful endeavour in the broader journey of the times.
