Recently, SUN Xiangjun, Party Secretary of Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University, led a six-member delegation to Harbin Engineering University (HEU) for research exchange. The two sides held in-depth discussions on interdisciplinary medicine-engineering discipline development, doctoral programme construction and postgraduate education. YIN Jingwei, President of HEU, attended the symposium, which was presided over by CHEN Hailong, Assistant to the President of HEU.
YIN Jingwei stated that HEU, oriented towards people’s life and health, regards the interdisciplinary integration of medicine and engineering as a key growth point for disciplinary development, and continues to foster emerging medical-related research directions. Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University boasts distinctive strengths in clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine and other fields, with robust educational capacity in programmes including anaesthesiology. The two universities have complementary focuses in their academic fields and broad space for mutually beneficial cooperation. He hoped this visit would serve as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration in building interdisciplinary medicine-engineering research platforms, joint postgraduate training, faculty exchange, and the alignment of engineering technology with clinical medical needs, supporting high-quality development for both institutions.
SUN Xiangjun briefly introduced the development history and educational characteristics of Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University. He noted that HEU has distinctive educational features and strong comprehensive strength, and has made important contributions to China’s economic and social development. He expressed the hope to further learn from HEU’s advanced experience in discipline construction and postgraduate talent training, deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and further improve the standard of interdisciplinary medicine-engineering development and the quality of high-level talent training at Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University.
