Domestic and international experts gathered in Harbin to discuss the global development of nuclear energy, science, and education

On July 6th, the International Symposium on Nuclear Energy Science and Education Cooperation took place at HEU. The conference, guided by the China Atomic Energy Authority and co-sponsored by the China Nuclear Industry Education Society and HEU, centered around the theme of "Education, Reform, and Energy." The main focus was on nuclear energy and its significant impact on the education of international students under "The Belt and Road Initiative" framework, energy model reforms, and the common development of nuclear energy and multiple energy sources to meet the dual carbon goals.

During the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by notable figures, including MENG Hua, Director of the Personnel Department of the China Atomic Energy Authority; HANG Wei, Director of the Energy Planning, Information, and Knowledge Management Department of the Ministry of Nuclear Energy of the International Atomic Energy Agency; WANG Anmin, Chairman of the China Nuclear Industry Education Society; and YU Zhiwen, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of HEU.

Participating in the event, either online or offline, were the Science and Technology Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, the Education Counsellor of the Saudi Arabia Embassy in China, 25 officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Atomic Energy Commission of Nigeria, Pakistan, and other countries. Additionally, representatives from 17 countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative," such as Pakistan, Nigeria, and the Philippines, and representatives from the China Atomic Energy Authority, 13 domestic universities, CNNC, CGNPC, and SDIC, totaling more than 200 people, attended the meeting.

MENG Hua highlighted that the first phase of the Chinese Government's Atomic Energy Scholarship Training Program has successfully established a talent training model of "government-school-enterprise" coordination, aligned with international standards. Harbin Engineering University, the training unit in collaboration with Chinese nuclear-related enterprises, provides foreign students with distinctive teaching plans and practical conditions. The program's outstanding contributions to talent cultivation have received high praise and wide recognition from the International Atomic Energy Agency and relevant countries.
