Harbin Engineering University History Museum Officially Opened

As one of the important events of the 70th anniversary celebration of HEU, the university's History Museum was officially opened on August 31th, with the opening ceremony taking place in the square in front of the museum.

GAO Yan, the university's Party Committee Secretary, YAO Yu, HEU's President, PENG Yuankui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, YU Zhiwen and YIN Jingwei, Vice Presidents, LV Dongshi, Minister of the Propaganda Department, LI Rongsheng, Minister of the Organization Department, and GENG Jing, Assistant to the President, all participated in the unveiling ceremony. Former university leaders, relatives of President CHENG Geng, representatives from the alumni and their relatives of the PRA Military Institute of Engineering, alumni representatives of HEU, and student members of the Students Volunteer Lecturer Association attended the opening ceremony. GAO Wanxin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, presided over the event.

GAO Yan, YAO Yu, along with representatives from the alumni of the PRA Military Institute of Engineering, including Major General GAO Xuemin, former Vice Minister of the Naval Armament Department, Major General ZHAO Dengping, retired teacher Professor LI Guobin, and Zhang Qingyuan, representing the Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute alumni, collectively unveiled the History Museum.

In his speech, GAO Yan expressed that the completion and opening of the History Museum are not only significant additions to the university's unique cultural and educational environment but also serve as a comprehensive showcase of the university's growth and development over time. The establishment of the History Museum signifies a new beginning for the study of the university's history and the promotion of campus culture.



Efforts should be directed towards strengthening the collection and organization of historical materials, enhancing the methods of exhibition, and ensuring thorough research and compilation of the university's history. The History Museum should be leveraged to cultivate an outstanding campus culture, serving as fertile ground for education and an inspiring learning space for both teachers and students.

Additionally, it should function as a prominent platform for showcasing the school's distinct characteristics, fostering closer bonds among teachers, students, and alumni, and promoting cultural exchange and integration.

To effectively convey the university's history, a team of young lecturers known as the "Engineering Youth Lecturer Group" has been assembled, along with a student volunteer lecturer association. PENG Yuankui presented appointment letters to the representatives of the Student Volunteer Lecturer Association, while YU Zhiwen awarded appointment letters to the representatives of the "Engineering Youth Lecturer Group."

Wang Jiayi, representing the Students Volunteer Lecturer Association, and JI Yuqi, representing the "Engineering Youth Lecturer Group," delivered speeches. They expressed their dedication to preserving the spirit of scientific research for the nation, which has been handed down by the previous generation of researchers. They also emphasized their commitment to narrating the story of Harbin Engineering University, promoting the ethos of the PRA Military Institute of Engineering, and allowing the "red gene" spirit to flow through their veins. Their goal is to guide Harbin Engineering students in comprehending, respecting, and perpetuating the university's history.

In support of the History Museum's construction, alumni have generously contributed various exhibits. Alumni from China Nuclear Engineering Corporation donated a model of the "Hualong One" nuclear reactor. Additionally, undergraduate students from the College of Shipbuilding Engineering, including LI Xiang, LIU Jiaqi, JIANG Lei, DENG Bowen, and ZHENG Siyu, donated a model of the "Wukong" autonomous underwater vehicle. YAO Yu presented donation certificates to the representatives of these generous donors.

Following the opening ceremony, alumni were led by the "Engineering Youth Lecturer Group" as they explored the History Museum. During this visit, they reminisced about the university's remarkable progress over the past 70 years.
