On October 27th, with sponsorship from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry and other organizations, the "Ship New Energy Hybrid Technology Forum" achieved a successful gathering in Yantai. The forum received support from the HEU Yantai Research Institute and various other institutions.
During her speech, TAN Naifen, Deputy Secretary General of the National Shipbuilding Industry, emphasized the growing uncertainty and challenges in a world where global economic growth is slowing down. Simultaneously, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is set to launch a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships in 2023, further hastening the pace of decarbonization in the global shipbuilding and shipping industries. These conditions create both significant opportunities and severe challenges for the shipbuilding industry. To tackle this, the industry needs to increase investments in digital and environmentally-friendly technologies, foster intelligent manufacturing, and develop integrated solutions to accelerate a comprehensive transformation from the ground up. This forum comes at an opportune moment and holds profound significance, providing an excellent platform for the industry to collectively explore the green development of shipbuilding.
CHEN Hailong, Dean of Yantai Research Institute of HEU, highlighted the institute's longstanding focus on new energy propulsion for ships and its numerous practical collaborations with over 20 research institutes and renowned enterprises in the field, both within and outside Shandong Province. In the future, HEU plans to leverage its talent and technological innovation advantages, collaborate with industry colleagues, and seize the opportunity to research and develop key technologies for environmentally-friendly ships. Together, they aim to promote the advancement and evolution of new energy propulsion technology for ships, contributing to the growth of a robust shipbuilding sector.
As a significant component of the forum, two low-carbon shipping solutions, specifically the marine methanol fuel supply system and the carbon capture and reuse system, were officially unveiled on-site.
