Recently, students from Harbin Engineering University embarked on a practical research initiative titled "Feel the Charm of Nuclear" during their visit to the Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant. They explored the construction site of the "Hualong NO.1" nuclear power unit and the "Linglong NO.1" (ACP100) global first pile demonstration project, delving into the path of high-quality development for low-carbon energy. The primary objective was to gain a profound understanding of the scientific essence of "new productive forces," work towards achieving "dual-carbon" goals, experience the allure of the nuclear industry, witness the illustrious progress of China's nuclear energy sector, and actively contribute to the establishment of an energy powerhouse.
The College of Nuclear Science and Technology recruited 20 research team members for this special initiative, selecting individuals from various disciplines within HEU, including energy and power, measurement and control technology and instruments, robotics engineering, and underwater acoustics engineering.
To enrich the practical experience, the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, in collaboration with enterprises, meticulously planned four components of the research activity. These included engaging in learning discussions, attending lectures, gaining insights into national needs and industry demands from experts and alumni, on-site visits to the Hualong NO.1 and Linglong NO.1 projects, shadowing learning experiences by immersing in the frontline, conducting interviews and dialogues with scientific research personnel and frontline engineers, and finally, entering the enterprise living area to understand the management system and experience the corporate culture. Following the exploration of these "new productive forces," students came to appreciate the dynamic force propelling China's high-quality development of low-carbon new energy.
The practical research activity, "Feel the Charm of Nuclear," officially commenced with an opening ceremony on February 19th. WEI Zhigang, Chairman of Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant and a 1995 graduate of HEU, presented an overview of the Hainan Nuclear Power Station to the research group.
