From August 27th to 31st, 2024, the 20th Academic Conference on Reactor Numerical Calculation and Particle Transport, along with the 2024 Reactor Physics Conference, was held on campus. The event brought together over 700 experts, scholars, and students from 66 research institutes, enterprises, and universities to discuss and exchange ideas on reactor physics research and applications.
The conference aimed to enhance academic exchanges and cooperation in various areas, including reactor theory, numerical simulation, database development, software research and development, reactor nuclear design, fuel management, radiation shielding, reactor experimentation, and operational analysis. It also sought to maximize the role of reactor physics research in advancing nuclear energy development and fostering talent.
On the morning of August 28th, the conference’s opening ceremony took place at the Qihang Theater. Attendees included PENG Xianjue, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Ouyang Xiaoping, Chief Scientist of China National Nuclear Group and Chief Designer of “Hualong One”; XING Ji, Vice Minister of the Exhibition Department of the Chinese Nuclear Society; and CHEN Yang, Director of the Special Committee on Reactor Numerical Calculation and Particle Transport of the Computational Physics Branch of the Chinese Nuclear Society.
Vice President YU Zhiwen attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He briefly introduced the development history and key characteristics of Harbin Engineering University's (HEU) nuclear discipline and emphasized that the conference serves as an important platform for strengthening exchanges and cooperation in areas such as reactor theory, fuel management, and reactor nuclear design. YU Zhiwen expressed hope that the participating experts and scholars would engage in thorough discussions, actively explore basic research, advanced nuclear energy development, nuclear technology applications, and the training of top innovative talents in the nuclear field, thereby jointly advancing the development of disciplines and technological progress in reactor-related fields.
CHEN Yang highlighted the Chinese Nuclear Society’s commitment to building a leading platform for nuclear science and technology education, talent development, and academic exchange, contributing to the growth, popularization, and international exchange of nuclear science and technology.
LI Qing remarked that the Academic Conference on Reactor Numerical Calculation and Particle Transport has grown into one of the most influential academic events in reactor physics in China. He added that the conference committee would continue to play a leading academic role, promote the integration of new digital technologies with nuclear power development, and explore new paths for the high-quality development of the nuclear energy industry.
Academician PENG Xianjue delivered a report.

XING Ji delivered a report.

Professor QIN Hongde from the College of Shipbuilding Engineering at HEU delivered a presentation during the conference.

In addition, twelve experts from various institutions, including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, China National Nuclear Corporation, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, State Power Investment Group, Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Harbin Engineering University, presented their research and insights at the event.
